Altaussee Salt Mine - Underground, on the Miner's Slide

The Altaussee salt mine has a long and eventful history dating back to 1147. The 'white gold' is still extracted here. Altaussee is still the largest active salt mine in Austria. Bad Ischl's unique natural salt comes from the depths of these mountains and is extracted, crushed and sorted by miners using traditional craftsmanship.

Experience the fascination of the mine at first hand on a trip to the exhibition mine. Walk through corridors of shimmering rock salt, enter the enchanting Barbara Chapel and admire the magical leaching chambers. Let yourself be enchanted by a mirror-smooth salt lake, the world underground and daringly hurtle down the miner's slide.
